Secondo quanto ammette la  cantante canadese Alanis Morissette in una autobiografia, ancora adolescente,  ha subìto  violenza sessuale.  L'abuso è il motivo che sta alla base dell'angoscia esistenziale espressa nel suo primo album Jagged Little Pill. Dopo aver superato un periodo di anoressia e bulimia ha avuto una relazione lesbica ed  usato sostanze stupefacenti .
